Daniel's story

Starting with an NVQ, Daniel has gone on to study Media at A level and eventually hopes to go on to university.

Hi, I'm Daniel and I'm doing an A level Media course. Last year I did the NVQ which motivated me to go on to do the A level.

I'd like to go on to university and pursue a career in film.

My advice is that anybody can do this course, it's just a matter of finding out if you like it or not and what suits you.

I like the filming whereas my friend likes the scripting. The advantage of this is that you get stuck in and learn as you go along.

Hello, I'm Simon, a teacher from Balby Carr School in Doncaster.

Daniel came to us to follow a vocational course rather than go down the traditional academic route. The NVQ is worth four GCSEs at A* to C.

There are a lot of jobs in the media industry in South Yorkshire, and the vocational courses give students a portfolio of skills that they can use to apply for these jobs.
