Just a few things to bear in mind!

  • Schools' sixth forms, sixth-form colleges and colleges of further education sometimes ask for specific entry requirements at 16. Young people should check their requirements before they make any final decisions.
  • Similarly, universities will have specific entry requirements for their courses, so these should also be considered when making choices.
  • Employers often require GCSEs in Maths, English, ICT and the sciences. Some jobs will also need specific qualifications, for example chemistry to become a doctor.
  • If a young person decides not to pursue a vocational subject further, the course will still have given them a recognised qualification and a range of key skills valued by employers.
