Vocational education
 for teachers

Helping your students make the right choices

It's options time again and to support you, a vocational education campaign called ‘Hands On' has been developed to help raise awareness of the alternative opportunities available to 14-19-year-olds across South Yorkshire.

Order your free resources and look at the useful links on this site to help you when advising students who may be interested in a more hands-on approach to learning.

As a teacher, you'll almost certainly know the value of vocational education in providing a valuable and engaging way of learning for young people, which introduces them to the world of work.

But did you know that the four local authorities in South Yorkshire are working closely with secondary schools, colleges, Connexions and employers to offer your students a more flexible curriculum of vocational education?

A bit of background

The Government is currently transforming the education system for 14-19-year-olds. (Read more about the Government's plans on the Department for Children, Schools and Families.)

In line with these plans, we're developing new work-related learning pathways to give young people the skills, knowledge and experience that will help prepare them for work, further education or training.

So your students will get:

  • more choice in what and how they learn

  • the work-based skills employers need.

Helping you to help your students

We've created this website to provide teachers, students, parents and carers, and local employers with information about the vocational opportunities in South Yorkshire.

We want to help you help your students make the right choices for them individually, whatever their skills and interests. Follow these links to:
